Awesome Lava Fountains at Etna!

EtnaFountain2-23-annMt Etna, an active stratovolcano on the east coast of  Sicily, is one of the most active volcanoes in the world and in an almost constant state of activity.  It’s the tallest volcano in Europe and the largest of the three active Italian volcanoes.

Etna has been periodically quite active over the last year or so, particularly over the last month, with eruptions from several different points.  The impressive lava fountaining in the following video is from the early morning of March 6, 2013.  The lava is fountaining over a half a mile into the sky – over twice the height of the Empire State Building.

It’s amazing to see how long the “sparks” from the fountain take to drop and to realize that those “sparks” are actually large pieces of lava falling onto the slope of the developing cone, falling faster and faster (speed rising by ~32 feet per second for every second of free fall) – they aren’t falling in slow motion, though it may seem that way.

Today’s Best?

I’ve been dabbling a bit with Zazzle lately and I’m not really expecting anything significant from it, at least in the near term.

In today’s e-mail, I saw this:

image

It’s pretty cool, I guess.  The image is one of my favorites of relative few that I’ve uploaded to create products with.  This particular “product” is poster of an 1899 photo of an Apache chief.

According the Wikipedia “Zazzle is an online retailer that allows users to upload images and create their own merchandise (clothing, posters, etc.), or buy merchandise created by other users, as well as use images from participating companies. Zazzle’s proprietary technology enables individuals, professional artists, and major brands, including Disney and Hallmark, to create and offer billions of unique products for customers worldwide.”

We’ll see what happens – and I’ll keep dabbling with it.

Vintage posters.

The fifteen images below are among a number that I’m using on the Exit78 Zazzle shop.  I’m initially setting them up as posters, but may use some of them later for other products.

I will be sharing here any new images that I add to the Zazzle shop.  However, I’ll only share them here one time, even if I subsequently use them for other products.  The intent in displaying them here is simply to share vintage images that I’ve discovered, as described in the tagline above.

I’ve tried to find out more information on the various images.  Unfortunately, there is little more to be had.

Enjoy.
