Kaw Lake on Day 1–Traveling the West 2014.

Our first camp was at Osage Cove,  a large Corps of Engineers campground situated along the banks of Kaw Lake in north central Oklahoma.  Kaw Lake is one of several lakes in Oklahoma constructed and maintained by the US Army Corps of Engineers.

We were just there for the overnight stop, though we did get in a bit of walking for some exercise.

Leaving Kaw Lake, we were headed to Kansas and a fort.

Hi Mike – looks an amazing stop … you’re lucky with the spaces you’ve got in the States … Enjoy Kansas and the fort ..

    Cheers Hilary

The fort was a wonderful stop. It was hot, though that was to be expected. I’ll be posting on it soon, though I don’t know when it will be published as we will be away from services for the next week.

Yep, really does look like a nice area. Oddly enough even though I’m from Arkansas, which as you know has more than its fair share of nice lakes, one of my favorite lakes is in Oklahoma. It’s Foss Lake located in the western part of the state. It was close to the Clinton-Sherman AFB where I was stationed in the early sixtes. 🙂

We’ve stayed at Canton Lake a couple of times. Foss Lake looks like a good stopping point if we’re headed to New Mexicao or elsewhere in the that direction. Looking to see where that is, I found this: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/08/09/oklahoma-says-bodies-foun_n_5663268.html

Yes, I was definitely aware of that incident. It caught my attention when it was first published. The incident took place on the other side of the lake from where I used to hang out when I was there.
