What's going on here? Thunder storm? Fire?
XUP’s last blog post..Toast: A Heated Debate
@Mike
I have been watching the progress of the eruption of Redoubt for the past two months. My husband and I fell in love with Anchorage and Denali National Park 18 years ago when we pulled our 13 foot fiber glass trailer across Canada to Alaska and the Yukon. Anchorage was an especially memorable city. Check out this website for uptodate info and more spectacular photos. http://www.avo.alaska.edu/activity/Redoubt.php
Fact: On December 15, 1989, a Boeing 747 flying 240 kilometers NE of Anchorage encountered an ash cloud erupted from Redoubt Volcano and lost power in all four jet engines. The plane, with 231 passengers aboard, lost more than 3,000 meters of elevation before the flight crew was able to restart the engines. After landing, it was determined the airplane had suffered about $80 million in damage
@XUP
I assume it's lightning.
XUP – Clouds of toxic ash and dust blown into the sky sometimes ionize the air to the point that an electrical storm results.
Friar's Mom – I've been watching it for several weeks, too. In fact, this image is from the web site you cited.

We've not made it to Denali. Our only trip to Alaska was a cruise in 2002. We hope to make it back one day with our motor home, but not this year.
Amazing!
