On one of my other blogs, Daily Chronicles of the American Civil War, a visitor left a comment that she thought it was “a great idea for a blog.”
Now that’s a good comment – so long as it’s not from a comment spammer.
However, the rest of the comment is quite different from others that my blogging has received.
An easy way for anybody to learn about our history, I have bookmarked your site as required reading as part of my homeschool curriculum.
For someone who was an instructor for over 25 years – between the navy and my civilian career – that is a great comment and a motivator to keep plugging away at it.
I’ve just completed the links for my newest photo gallery. Last Friday, while Karen was busy at something else, I headed over to the Arkansas River at Dardanelle Lock and Dam, on the Dardanelle side. I took almost three hundred photographs. I’ve included the best in my new Dardanelle Lock and Dam – Pelicans and Gulls Photo Gallery.

Well, I guess we lucked out. We hadn’t opened the jar of peanut butter, yet.
That’s a little unusual, but this time we had bought a new jar before the old jar was finished.
Karen thought that we were ok. She had heard that it was Peter Pan peanut butter and we had gotten the “generic” brand at Walmart.
However, I had gone to town to get a newspaper to find out what the ruckus had been in Russellville the day before – turned out that a ticking package had been delivered to one of the motels – and there was an article in the paper that gave more details on the peanut butter.
I checked again and, sure enough, the code on the lid started with the same four numbers as the batch of bad peanut butter.
Later in the day, we stopped at Walmart. One of the things on our list was a jar of crunchy peanut butter to replace the tainted jar.
The shelves of peanut butter were almost entirely bare!
The only crunchy peanut butter was in a small, “healthy” brand jar.
We bought one to tide us over until we can get a bigger jar.

I updated WordPress to the most recent version and activated the Askimet plugin and since then, there’s been no comment spam problem on either one. One of them does have a message on the Dashboard page that says: Akismet has protected your site from 1,683 spam comments.
Now I just need to go look at my old, idle blogs to see how much comment spam is there. I don’t want to delete them as there is still some good content to retrieve.

I don’t get the hoopla over Anna Nicole Smith. It seems like every other blog I read has a post about her – I’ve stopped reading them.
This morning on the Today show, they went way overboard about it and even had a “panel of experts” just to talk about her death – I didn’t watch.
It bothers me that there is so much attention on the death of this one person. Other people who have done and meant so much more often get little more that a mere mention in the news when they die.
Her death is even being discussed on our local news station – I’m not watching.
disclaimer – this post is not about Anna Nicole Smith. It’s about the over-reaction to her passing. I’m not going to write about her, at least not until all of the hoopla dies down.

In this sequence of images, I spotted two great egrets flying out over the lake and was taking pictures of them when one of them pealed off and flew back in my direction. It had spotted a fish in the water and was diving down to get it. I didn’t get the moment of capture, but, in the image above, as it is taking off again, you can see that was successful and there is something in its beak. It then returns to its original flight path.

According to Gallup, President Bush,s approval rating has dropped to 32%, the lowest since last May. His approval ratings on foreign affairs, the situation in Iraq, and immigration are the lowest of his administration.
George just doesn’t get it, in my view. The American public sees, despite the mid-term elections, that the president isn’t listening to them – just like Poppy Bush in ‘92.

I’ve just placed another Haw Creek Outdoors Gallery on line, with photos taken at Fairfield Lake State Park. There are over 100 images in the gallery, taken January 26, 27, and 28, 2007. Generally, the photographs are sequenced in the order that they were originally taken.

I’ve got 3 (or is it 4?) blogs. This one, being the newer one, is the best at stopping comment spam. On the others, I haven’t upgraded to the most recent version of WordPress and the spamming seems to be rising exponentially.
I guess I need to move that upgrade up on my “to do” list.
2338 comments since February 2, the last day I posted to Haw Creek Out ‘n About is outrageous!
It’s totally not worth the effort to try to see if there are any valid comments in there. There probably aren’t any, but I do hate to dump legitimate comments.
However, I’m NOT going to try to wade through that volume of trash!

And, then, after I get the comments awaiting moderation dumped, I discover over 80 spam comments that had made it through without moderation. They are now gone!
