We left Lewistown, Montana, this morning. Our original “two or three days” turned into a week.

I checked out the larger pics on your photogaphy site. Gorgeous sunset. And a fun little story about the square bale dancers! I noticed on the banner on the stage it said “Dos Hay Doe” and that cracked me up as I remember that Do-si-do being one of my favorite parts of square dancing.

We’ve had quite a bit of rain since we’ve been here in Lewistown, Montana. Fortunately, though, it’s not been raining when we’ve been out and about.
After the Chokecherry Festival yesterday, we went for a drive into the Montana’s Snowy Mountains. As we were getting closer, it seemed like some of the white of the clouds on the mountains was something else on the mountains.
Snow!
First of the season in the high country from what I understand.

Brrrr!
Woke up this morning and it was 59°F (15°C) inside! and 43°F (6°C) outside.
We had the heat set a little too low in the camper.
This weekend the high is supposed to be no higher than 60°, though today is supposed to get up to 70°.
We love autumn — even if it’s early September. This way, as we travel, we’ll have a very long autumn.

Opal has a interesting post on her Vegan Momma blog. She is clearing out some of her unneeded items and is getting free co-branded boxes for shipping of items that you sell on eBay.
You make money from what you sell, eBay makes money from what you sell, and the US Postal Service makes money on the shipping.

I thought that was cool also actually USPS offers that service for “regular folks” also. I wrote about it on The Raw Review. I’ll have to post about that on Vegan Momma.

I’m finding that as this blog develops — and I develop along with it — that I am enjoying writing and that sometimes the words flow really well.
When words are flowing really well, some folks have the tendency to ramble on and on and on and… well, you know.
I try not to do that. Often times, a short succinct article is more effective and has a better result than longer articles, as Skellie notes in Little Words, Big Meaning.
A long article has it’s place. It’s good for detailed explanations, in-depth reporting or descriptions, and, sometimes, even humor — such as Dawn’s Because I Said So blog — or satire. However, it needs to flow and generally be well organized, not ramble on and on and on and… well, you know.
Speaking of which — I think I’m going to keep this short and ramble on… to something else!

The last couple of days have been spent working with an installer, Ron, trying to get my satellite internet system working and training me on how to set it up and use it. It’s a new model and there have been a few wrinkles. When I leave here though, we will be comfortable with the system and I’ll be able to blog from just about anywhere!
Ron is a member of an online forum that I participate in and has an “extra” RV pad at his home just for friends — which is where we are currently camped. He is retired and does the install for other forum members at the one price no matter how long it takes. He wants to make sure that they will be able to handle it once they leave.
We’ve also been sharing supper with Ron and his wife — three times in their house and once at The Black Bull Saloon and Steakhouse in a town about 30 minutes from here — lots of good discussions and stories.
We sat at a table right next to the built in wine rack – the image below is from their home page.
Even though we had originally only planned a couple of days here, we’re going to end up being here for a full week, it appears. Seems there’s a couple of events in the area that might be interesting, with more opportunities for pictures.

Wow – that Ron seems like a great guy, making sure you know what you’re doing before you leave and having an RV pad to stay at. That is wonderful. Also, very cool built-in winerack. Looking forward to posts on the area’s events!

I’ve redone the front page on my photo web site –Michael Goad Photography.
Basically, for now, all the site will have is a photo index page — which will later be multiple index pages as the site grows — and the photo blog. Clicking on an individual thumbnail on the photo index page will take the visitor to the photo blog page for that particular thumbnail.
Michael Goad Photography is intended to be where I present some of my “better” photographic images.
At some point later, I will also be publishing these and a lot of my other photographs in photo galleries at my Haw Creek Outdoors website.

Teeni, — actually, I have 5 blogs. Two of them are related to civil war stuff, one to outdoors related topics, the photo blog and this one.
Rose — photography is a long ago obsession that I’ve recently rediscovered. In that respect it’s not “just” a hobby. However, I don’t do photography for profit, so in that respect, I guess it is a hobby.

Two of my five blogs are getting hit again and again by comment spam the Askimet is not catching — but Askimet is also catching a lot more than normal.
I hate comment spam!
Comment spam is an unethical invasion of my online material and it requires extra effort for me to get rid of it that I should not have to take.

Every once in a while, I have to remind myself that all of this — what I’m doing on the internet — is not a job.
I don’t need to earn an income from this.
What I do need to do is keep it enjoyable and take what earnings I can while having fun.
What I don’t need to do is take on so many internet responsibilities that the pleasure goes away.
For me, the things I do here are supposed to be fun — not work?!?, as Maynard G. Krebs would say it.

Tomorrow, I’ll be getting some OJT — on-the-job training — on how to set up an internet satellite system.
Except it’s not exactly on-the-job, since I don’t have one — a job, that is.
The guy that’s going to provide the training doesn’t have one, either. He makes some money doing it, but it’s extra money, not a job type money. He’s retired, too.
After researching internet satellite systems, I decided this is the way that I wanted to go. I’m sure that I could have a system sent to me and I could figure out how to do it. There’s some manuals on-line that tell you how to do it.
However, after 20-plus years as an instructor, I know that the best way to learn in most instances is to watch someone else do it, then practice it, and then do it again. That’s how Ron does his training.
Another good thing about it — there’s no test! The criteria for successful completion of the training is that it is over when I feel comfortable setting the system up.
2007 will be the first year for me since 1957 that I haven’t had to take some kind of test.
