This New Mexico KOA is a bit different from the normal Kamgrounds of America, Inc. franchise.
The camping area is little more than a large graveled parking lot with full hookups and wifi. However, this is the desert, and, situated just off I-40, it is a quite adequate overnight stop for travelers in RVs on the way to somewhere else. There is a very large laundromat, open to the public. We would stay here again, with no hesitation.
We stayed here in on our way home on our August and September 2007 trip.

Historic Homes – Guided tours of four restored early 19th-century houses are offered daily on the hour, except noon.
Late 1840s. James McVicar built this wooden house, using white oak logs and square pegs, on the same block his friend Robert Brownlee built a brick home. Their homes follow the symmetrical 1840s style with a large central hall bordered by two rooms of equal size. McVicar was director of the state penitentiary, a Mason, a veteran of the Mexican War, and a slave holder.

We came across these bighorn sheep – females and young bighorns don’t have the huge horns that give them their popular name – driving along the Salmon River in Idaho, on our way to a campground in Montana on July 29, 2010.

As best as I can tell, this is Virginia Spiderwort.
We were on our way to Virginia in May 2009 and were camping two nights in west Tennessee. We had taken a drive to see some of the state away from our normal route, Interstate 40. During a break in the rain, we took a hike through the woods at Montgomery Bell State Park.

This is about the best lightning shot I’ve done. I had to do a bit a post-processing to get the final result.
We were camped at a commercial campground about 20 or so miles from Mt. Rushmore.
Weather and climate were important topics in the plains states of the U.S. in the 1930s.
Photo #1 is Garden City, Kansas at 5:15 p.m. Note street lights and compare to photo # 2 to orient picture. Second image is approximately 15 minutes later after dust storm blotted out the sun. Street lights are on allowing orientation of picture .
