Like modern recessions, the Great Depression wasn’t a tragedy for everyone.
Tavern on southside of Chicago, April 1941… Pictured on left is Dan Dixon. On the right is Lonnie Johnson (1889 – 1970), a pre-World War II recording star whose career on records stretched, unbroken, into the late 1960s. The tavern is Squares Boulevard Lounge.
