Klamath Basin potato farmer. He remembers when the first carload of potatoes left this valley in 1910. In 1934 he lost thirty-five hundred dollars on forty-eight acres of potatoes. His present acreage is eleven acres in potatoes, the rest in hay and soil-building crops. Has eleven milking cows. "I'm gonna eat." Note: I had no idea what kind of blossom this was.  I like to take pictures of flowers, but I am not particularly familiar with botany.  Hilary Melton-Butcher thought it might be a Dahlia (see comment below) and that gave me something to search on and I found this 1805 painting of Dahlia sambucifolia, by William Hooker on Wikipedia.
