A lost Exit78 post, recovered from Internet Archive WayBackMachine; March 2011
My Daily Chronicles of the American Civil War blog is very, very popular — to the comment spammers.
I am really glad that I installed the Askimet (short for Automattic Kismet) plug-in. It’s the result of “a collaborative effort to make comment and trackback spam a non-issue and restore innocence to blogging…”
Well, it is really working for me. I installed it on Daily Chronicles of the American Civil War several months ago and it has stopped 121,399 spam comments since I first installed it. Askimet identified 3387 of those in the last couple of days — since the last time I purged the spam comments .
I just wish the blog was as popular with regular folks as it appears to be with the comment spammers.
Oh, well….
Update — In the hour and 15 minutes since I published this post, Askimet identified another 100 comment spams.

Oh boy how I can relate to that. My personal blog these days is more popular to spammers then it is to common folks.

My main website gets at least 300 spam daily. I usually have two manually eliminate some a few times weekly. I suspect they are people checking out the recently updated Do Follow Blogrolls. Ferrets Haven receives a lot of spam daily mainly for one post.
