Hi Mike – Karen’s uncle must have been made of stern stuff to survive … resilience of a very different sort … that we tend to think of today. It’s so difficult to think about and so appalling what we do to others …

Thank you for reminding us of those who suffered for us to be free today … have a peaceful Memorial Day … Hilary

I only met Linus a few times so I really didn’t know him. He and his siblings were farm born in northeast Wisconsin. He was a teen during the Great Depression and worked, I think, in the Civilian Conservation Corps, before joining the army. He would have been 22 when the Japanese attacked the Philippines.

Hi Mike – I’m glad you had a chance to meet him … and he was about the same age as my parents … late teens when the War started here. We never talked about the War … my father had a particularly difficult time …

Life demands us to live whatever the circumstances … and it can and does pull people through … all the best – Hilary
