James W. Goad received only a grade school education. He was a farmer and the couple belonged to the Victor Brethren Church. After his death “Ollie” Wineland Goad married George Hiram Fruit at Plainville, Kansas. He was born 17 February 1860 in Iowa and died 5 April 1931. He is buried in the Cedar Bluff Cemetery.
Clinton C. Goad’s wife, Nancy Ellen Winder, and Hazel R. Goad’s husband, Ralph LeRoy Winder, were children of William Clarence and Ida Rosamond Bradshaw Winder.
John L. Goad’s wife, Lorna G. Grantham, and Della J. Goad’s husband, Frederick E. Grantham, were children of Richard Hardwick and Nancy Wells Grantham.
Clint, John and Della Goad were married in a triple ceremony at Osborne, conducted by David G. Fink.
Jim and Ollie Goad built a sod house about 1890 on their land three miles west, six miles north of Waldo, in Liberty Township. After it was completed a steady stream of wagons were seen going to and from their home. On investigation, the sheriff found neighbors carting Goad water home by the barrel. Many wells in early days produced only surface water, unpalatable and unsanitary. Jim and Ollie were happy to share with others less fortunate.
Clint, John, and Hugh Goad, son of Thomas Jefferson and Dora Bradshaw Goad, provided music for many a dance during the years 1906-1925. When they set bow on string, hardly a soul could stop dancing until they stopped fiddling. Children danced until they could no longer stay awake and then were bedded down behind the organ or piano that either Lorna Goad, John’s wife, or Nancy Goad, Clint’s wife, would be playing.
Clint Goad ran the creamery at Natoma in 1920 and 1923. Of James and Ollie’s children, only Lillian and Hazel remained in Osborne County.
