Sunday Commentary.
Just thought to use the phone to see if I could do some posting. So far, using the BlogPress ap, I’ve done it with limited typing on the keypad. The phone has a speech to text function that seems to work. With care, it may be easier-to-use than trying to type with its itsy-bitsy keyboard.
We have had smart phones for 2 1/2 years now, but the iPhone adds a different degree of functionality to smart phones use for us. Our previous phones were palm pre –which were not mainstream at all, so the availability of apps was minimal. For iPhone and android, on the other hand, there is a greater much greater availability of applications for use on the phones. In fact, yesterday when we started looking at those, we found over 14,000 news apps available for the iPhone in the App Store.
One thing that is different about using the speech to text for blogging is you have to gather your thoughts in advance or write them down. Of course, you can always go back and edit the post after the fact — it’s just not quite the same writing a blog post as opposed to speaking the blog post. Another option, of course, would be to write it all down and then speak it, but then you’re not gaining anything, are you?
Of course, I’m not going to pretend that I spoke all of this the way that it reads. I’ve gone back and edited, reedited, and edited again on the phone, using its on-screen keyboard and the voice-to-text feature and, lastly, on the laptop (italicized text.)
