While the country is being hit by another wave of COVID cases, the Delta wave, I guess, Florida is becoming its epicenter, breaking previous daily records for new cases (15,818), number hospitalized (9,451) and deaths (58). Florida is averaging 1,525 adult hospitalizations a day and 35 daily pediatric hospitalizations, both the highest per capita rates in the country.

Governor Ron DeSantis has resisted mandatory mask and vaccine requirements and, with the state legislature, has limited local officials’ ability to impose restrictions meant to stop the spread of the virus. Recently, he barred school districts from requiring students to wear masks.

In my opinion, it seems he is playing politics with a health crisis, making him, in my view, a political covidiot.

Covidiot

Dictionary.com:

A blend of COVID-19 and idiot, covidiot is a slang insult for someone who disregards health and safety guidelines about the novel coronavirus.

Some signs of covidiocy are: not washing your hands regularly, hanging out in groups of people, standing within six feet of a stranger at the grocery, hoarding items like toilet paper and hand sanitizer all to yourself.

Example: Don’t be a covidiot by visiting the beach today! It’s super crowded.

Macmillan Dictionary

an insulting term for someone who ignores health advice about Covid-19, hoards food unnecessarily, etc.

One particularly dense #COVIDIOT was blocking the narrow entrance into the park.

Urban Dictionary:

relating to the 2020 Covid-19 virus:
Someone who ignores the warnings regarding public health or safety.
A person who hoards goods, denying them from their neighbors.

Did you see that covidiot with 300 rolls of toilet paper in his basket?
That covidiot is hugging everyone she sees.

The term is thrown around a lot lately, but covidiots have been known to do things like act like nothing has changed, say COVID-19 is a hoax or overblown, get pissed off when they’re asked to wear a mask, or refer to COVID-19 as “just a flu.” A covidiot might also declare it’s their constitutional right to ignore social distancing guidelines and local regulations, buy up all the TP, eggs, disinfectant wipes, and hand sanitizer in sight, and host or go to parties where people aren’t social distancing or following other COVID-19 prevention guidelines.
