Sharing photos, videos, vintage images I've discovered, and -- occasionally -- commentary and thoughts from retired life and travels.

What the heck is it?

July 18, 2009

I came across this today while doing some searching online.

I know what it is, but I’m wondering if any of those who might be reading this can identify it — Fred, don’t give it away, if you happen to be checking in.

For added difficulty, can you identify where in the world the original photo was taken?

I didn’t take the photo, but I think I might have been there when it was taken.

identify this

Looks like a close up of an American submarine in dry dock to me. I would not know where it was taken, but would appear to be in the USA somewhere.

I want to say it is the nose of an airplane, but I don’t see the wings for pilots window. Hmmm so I am not sure what the heck it is.

A WWII bomb? The clues to its whereabouts are too minimal for me to guess.

Ramana (rumuser) got it right, of course, except that it was in Scotland. It’s the submarine I served on in drydock in Holy Loch, Scotland in about 1975.
