A Boy Soldier. I wonder what age he claimed to be?

The age limit for both sides for most of the war for combatants was 18. Non-combatants such as musicians, buglers etc, were given some leeway down to about 14 years old at least. Of course, there is always the (slim) possibility that he was older than he looked.
Hi Mike .. he sure looks a ‘boy’ doesn’t he – I hope he survived and had a decent life .. Hilary

The war took way too many. It would be nice to think that this young fellow escaped that fate.
Hi Mike. I’m visiting from Cheerful Monk’s blog. First time here but I intend to come back. I’d like to add you to me reading list.
The photo of this young man was featured on Ken Burn’s documentary (10 parts) of “The Civil War.” That’s really all I remember. He had lots of photos he showed while the narrator read letters from home in the background. I see fear and courage in his eyes. Like you, I hope he survived.

Hi Dixie!
Welcome to my blog.
That’s interesting about the photo being in the Civil War documentary. I’ve never actually seen the series. I’m currently “experiencing” the civil war through another of my blogs, Daily Observations of The Civil War, http://dotcw.com where I’m posting daily diary entries and letters from a bunch of different people on a daily basis, currently posting material from September 1862. I originally posted this photo on the blog as well as a facebook fan page, The American Civil War, http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-American-Civil-War/127650407273823
I visited your blog and see that you have quite a variety of posts. I subscribed via the Google feed reader.
