While most folks think the male elk – with their huge pointy racks – are dangerous, the females are not viewed the same way. However, I recently saw a video of an elk doe chasing a tourist who got too close. Fortunately, he was able to get out of her way by dodging behind obstacles. In 2009, just up the valley a short ways from where this photo was taken, we watched a female elk chasing a male mule deer. The people in this picture are just too close as this doe starts to cross the road.
