Travel Journal
On Wednesday, we traveled from Dubois, Wyoming to Grand Teton National Park. This has been one of our favorite places since we first visited here in the spring of 1973. It’s been one of my favorites since I visited with my sister and grandparents in 1963. We’ll be here a week.
Sightings:
A Moose at Moose, Wyoming
On the bank of the Snake River
Across from Park Headquarters
Pronghorn (aka Antelope)
More critter pictures to come. We saw a couple of herds of buffalo today, but didn’t stop to get any photos. We figured that there would be plenty of bison opportunities before we head back east.

Critter Crowd on Snake River bridge at Moose, Wyoming.
Large animal sightings along pubic roads invariably result in a crowd. All of this was from someone sighting one moose.

Mike, that first shot is gorgeous! There’s just something about mountains that puts me into a “quiet” place. They’re magnificent.
Lol, the critter crowd. It’s kinda funny when you think about it. When I lived on the farm we got used to seeing wildlife. We’d look and admire but not make a spectacle out of it. Instead the animals would make a spectacle about seeing us. In this shot it’s the other way around — the people are the critters.
Hi Mike – Great pics. The Tetons are awe inspiring and the sky is so blue over there. Is it really that blue or did you edit the photo?
Davina – thanks. When we come to this corner of Wyoming, we just accept that there we will be crowds of people. Of course, sometimes we’re part of the crowd. However, we just get our pictures and move on down the road.
Cath – Thanks. Yes, the sky can be amazingly blue here. I will admit that I did post-process the image, but I post-process virtually all of my photos, just like a film enthusiast would do in his dark room to adjust saturation and contrast. (I actually had an opportunity to do some dark room work in a college photography course I took about 15 years ago.) However, when I first read your comment, I looked outside and, yes, the sky was a color very similar to what was in the picture. The picture, by the way, is a composite of three photos.
Hello Mike,
I take photos of everything too, but don’t have the technical knowhow to play with them afterward.
I’ve been admiring your photos and reading back through some of your back pages. And enjoying the procrastinatory activity.
Spouse (DH) and I went across Canada by train 20 years ago, and somewhere going through the Rockies (don’t remember exact place but we were alongside a river gorge) a moose stood on the tracks and brought the train to a standstill for about half an hour. Of course a lot of us hurried up to the observation car for a look, but the car was too far back and we didn’t see the animal.
Beautiful! The two-legged critters are most annoying to see. I prefer the four-legged ones — and these are very nice!
