Jackson, Wyoming – Art Show in Miller Park

July 17, 2010

We’ve been busy – sightseeing, hiking, shopping, running to the grocery store, taking care of laundry, refilling the fresh water tank of our motor home, etc., etc.

Today we had the opportunity to take in some art at an art show in Jackson and at a museum north of town – more on the museum at some later time.

There was a lot of really neat art – and it was an art show, not an “arts and crafts show.”  There were a couple of exhibits that really caught my fancy.

One of them was the steel sculptures of Craig Michael Palm, who lives with his wife and sons in Rogers, Minnesota.

Another work that caught the attention of both Karen and I was a heavy wooden bed frame by R. C. Hink of Ketchum, Idaho.

There was a lot of other nice art of many different kinds, with artists from all over the country.

Hmm.. not sure what I think about those. They’re interesting, though and I’d certainly have gone as you did, to have a look. Thanks for showing them!

Those are amazing, I once dated a man who made steel sculptures. It was fascinating watching his ideas turn insto some massive creation.

Penny – There was a lot of other more conventional art. Later in the day, we went to The National Museum of Wildlife Art, with works from the 17th century through to modern times. The buffalo head and moose would have fit in well with some of the other “modern” works.

I think what we liked about the bed was it’s somewhat whimsical nature. It might fit well in our new bedroom, once it’s finished, but I’m sure we wouldn’t want to pay the price.

Moondancer – I sometimes think I would like to do some sort of metal working art, but I’d have to give up something else and I don’t have the tools for it — and maybe not the talent, either.

I like the buffalo- the moose is just too much like college anatomy for my taste.

Mike, at first when I saw that moose I thought he was on skis, lol. I’m glad you showed a close-up of the hair on the buffalo’s head. That is unbelievable. The detail! Wow.

BTW, is it my imagination, or are you posting more frequently since you’ve been on the road? There must be something about getting “out there” and getting a life. :-)

Michelle – I agree, though it was the moose that caught my eye first.

Davina – I took a picture of the buffalo “hair” after other art show visitors had pointed it out. It was pretty amazing.

Yes, I have been blogging more. I think, in a way, it’s because there’s so much more to share, but there is already a good sized accumulation of material to work on.

But, y’know, we’ve made this part of our travels and, in a way, it adds a different dimension to what what we are doing — we still haven’t watched any TV since we left home and that includes movies, even though we brought along a good stash. I have read 4 novels.

Wow. That is some fantastic metal art. Absolutely love the wooden boots on the end of that bed!

Yeah, I liked the boots, too. Kind of whimsical.
