Danger in our national parks

Our national parks are places where nature is preserved – and nature can be dangerous.

We have been away from news  internet service for about 4 or 5 days.

A while back, I subscribed to press releases from the National park Service.  While going through those that had accumulated, I noticed that there were several fatalities .  Then, while I was putting this post together, I was told about bear maulings in the Yellowstone area.

Nature can be dangerous.

Some people get hurt or killed because they don’t follow the rules.

Sometimes, though, natural events are the cause.  The bear maulings near Yellowstone appear to be very unusual, where no one did anything wrong.  It appears to be a rogue bear.

Hi Mike – So many people seem to be killed in falls. I hadn’t heard about the bear maulings at Yellowstone though. That is kind of scary if the victims weren’t even doing anything to provoke the attacks. I’m going to search them. The Spirit of Montana link isn’t working.

The latest information that I found indicates that the cubs were malnourished. That tells me that the mother bear was probably desperate enough to do something that is not normal.

Three grizzly bear cubs whose mother killed one person and mauled two others in a late-night attack at a Montana campground were malnourished and still in their winter coats.

The cubs have arrived at their new home at ZooMontana in Billings. Zoo executive director Jackie Worstell said Sunday the two female cubs and one male cub were underweight, possibly explaining their mother’s unusually aggressive behavior.
