Wednesday Weigh-in — January 28, 2009

Started November 1, 2008 at 285.6 lbs

Last week = 275 lbs.

This week = 276 lbs.

Gained 1 lb. 2 weeks in a row. 🙁

The doctor’s diagnosis was that my ailments were likely from a virus, but that overall, my health is good.

He did have one concern that was separate from the light headed feelings I’d been having.  My triglycerides were too high, though he did say that part of that was due to not fasting before the blood was drawn.  He did say that I should start taking Omega 3, that the fish oil in them would help reduce the triglyceride level.

The great news, though, is that my cholesterol is in good shape.

LDL cholesterol(the bad) is “optimal” if it’s less than 100.  I don’t know if I’ve ever had it that low before.  It was 90!

HDL cholesterol (the good) should be above 40 in men.  Mine was 42.

The visit to the clinic was on Thursday.  I was back to the fitness center on Friday and Saturday and skipped Sunday.  Had planned to go on Monday, but when I left the retiree breakfast, a light rain was falling and temperatures were below freezing, so I headed home.  We stayed home yesterday because of the weather. So I managed to get 2 workouts in in the last week.  We WILL be going to the gym today.

Oh, thanks for the well wishes, everyone!  I’m feeling pretty good this week.

    Glad to hear you checked out fine. Ya, I am not doing so well with this fitness thing either right now. BUT I refuse to get discouraged and give up. Especially after reading your warning, over at BlogToFit, about it getting harder and harder as the years roll on. Geepers creepers, it’s hard enough now!

    As long as you’re healthy, that’s all that matters! A pound or two here or there is acceptable if the other stuff works out.

    So glad to hear you are feeling better and that your appointment was a good one. I wouldn’t worry too much about the extra pound or two. Now that you are feeling better, it will be easier to work off. Keep up the good work!

    Exercise is always great, as long as you don’t push yourself to exhaustion.

    Glad to hear you’re better, Mike. I’ve been thinking about you.

    I read a very interesting article this week where the author, a middle-aged man, allows himself to quit exercise after 10 minutes if he really wants to, giving himself an out, as it were.

    I’m a fine one to talk on that as I blatantly skipped my walk this morning. But I won’t beat myself up. The day is not yet over and I might take a nice stroll on the path by the river a bit later, maybe that stroll will lead to some fast walking, maybe even a few running steps.

    Actually I’m inspired right now just imagining exercising, feeling my muscles in motion. Feeling alive and aware. After I post this I will do a few yoga stretches — it’s the little bits we do that all add up. Like our giving ourselves maybe slightly smaller portions of foods when want to lose weight.

    Hi Mike, the weight gain is a bummer but you can turn it around. We’ve seen you do it before!! Keep going. 🙂

    I loved you rpost title. It didn’t register at first, I got to the end of the article before my brain registered what my eyes had seen. 2007? Hehehehehe. I do that ALL the time. lol.

    It’s hard to lose weight when you’re sick, what with wanting comfort foods and all. Funny, I just looked up triglycerides because mine are over 300 for the first time. It says they come from the excess calories in food that your body doesn’t need, both from fats and from carbohydrates. So in your case, it sounds like your fats are good, but maybe the carbs aren’t?

    In my case, both were excessive over the holidays and due to heavy grieving. I knew it was bad, but not as bad as it turned out to be. I cut that out, but am still having a hard time getting the motivation to diet.

    This is so cool, I wish you good health and success in your weight management.

    I too started a weight management blog this year, although I am not yet prepared to reveal the url as on mine I have included video of my weekly measurements, so I am going to wait until there is at least some visible improvement.
