Very nice!

Quilt looks nice, but when I first glanced at the headline, I thought you were quitting your new job already! “ilt” just all blends together into “it” at a quick glance.

I’m fortunate to have such a talented spouse. We certainly have enough quilts to keep warm.
I guess Quilt Top does look something like Quit Job — actually quite a lot, in fact.

LOL @ dcr’s comment. He does have a point though. You haven’t started the job yet, right? Karen’s quilt is absolutely gorgeous! I love the round that has the ribbon-looking fabric. You have an extremely talented wife, Mike. With all those quilts she must keep you warm in more ways than one!

Mike - that is absolutely brilliant. How long did it take her to make? Does she make them to sell?

While she doesn’t do this for the purpose of making money, she has sold some through the gift store at the Historic Arkansas Museum in Little Rock. They have literally found their way to places she never imagined. One was bought as a gift to take on some sort of cultural exchange to China. Another is in in Austria, I believe, and one went to South Africa. A baby quilt was purchased last year to be raffled or auctioned (I’m not sure which) for a cancer benefit in Aspen, Colorado.
By the time she gets it on the quilting frame, she’ll have 90 hours in it. She hand-quilts and by the time that she’s done with it she’ll have a total of 200 to 250 hours in it, maybe more. It’s a king size quilt so she’d probably want $2000 U.S. for it, even though she’s making it specifically for our bed.

A whole heap of work goes into them then. Isn’t it great to think that people in so many different parts of the world have one of Karen’s quilts though? I bet she gets far more satisfaction from making them than if she was just mass producing an inferior product.

It’s cool how you can put a quilt on your blog and get so many comments about different quilting ideas. My mother has a ton of quilts and my grandmother had a lot more, but will quilting ever go away. It’s like a binding force between cultures I think! Quilting and sewing who would figure?

Mike - I don’t know what is happening but your recent post about being a lawyer - or not is not showing up on the main page. I think you may be having a technical problem.

Thanks Catherine! I guess I had inadvertently deleted it instead of deleting a draft of another post.
