Buffalo on a smoky day in Custer State Park, South Dakota. August 2007

I’ve stopped publishing Mike’s Photo Blog. Instead, my photo-blogging will be here on Exit78. I’ll be leaving the photo blog in place for now (perhaps I’ll resume it at some future time) so that any links from other sites pointing to it will not be broken. Photos previously posted on Mike’s Photo Blog may also appear here.

Generally, I will be selecting random photos for publication and will post new images a few times a week, interspersed with my other posts.

The photograph above was taken in August in South Dakota’s Custer State Park. The haze was from wild fires in states north and west of us and made for a very smoky day, though we saw worse days later in the trip.

  1. You take some great photos Mike. Were you as close as you appear to have been in the pic or did you use the zoom?

  2. Catherine - Thanks! I’ve got two zoom lenses and was using the “closer” zoom on this shot. I was shooting from the truck and the herd was on both sides of us. Some of the buffalo came very close to us. I’ll be working on a web page sometime in the relatively near future that will have a lot of images from Custer State Park. When it’s done, I’ll post about it here on Exit78.

We were also just as close to the buffalo a couple of days later as well as a couple of weeks later in Yellowstone National Park.

  3. I had wondered why your photo blog was so quiet. :) I have added this blog to my reader. I really like the composition in this photo. Very nice.

  4. Beth Ellen - Thanks! I really like sharing my photos and looking at those that others have taken, but trying to post here nearly every day and post on the photo blog daily was just too much, not to mention the other stuff I’m trying to continue.

I’ve had your blog on my reader for a while now.
