All the rain is past us now and the flooding has moved downstream. Our son-in-law was driving back to Wisconsin yesterday from northwest Arkansas and diverted up to Kansas City to miss the flooding in the St. Louis area, which is the route they normally travel. The flooding from these rains will take a week or more to move all the way down the Missouri and Mississippi rivers to the Gulf of Mexico.
Lot’s more to come out west, though. I read that Colorado and Idaho has double their normal snowpack — and it’s been years since they’ve even seen normal snow. Once the spring thaw begins, there’s probably going to be other areas flooding — especially if it’s accompanied by rain.
One of the weather people said that all of this weather we’ve been having is due to the jet stream and that the jet stream this year seems to be on STEROIDS — implying to me that there’s more to come.
Unfortunately, there’s been a lot of flooding. Most of the counties in the state are officially disaster areas. However, it’s just along the streams and rivers in the hilly and mountainous area where we live and we are well above any possible flood here, being about 500 feet higher than the Arkansas River at Dardanelle. The ground is very saturated and can’t absorb any more water so if we get rain, there is a possibility of flash floods.
Th worst part of the flooding though is in eastern Arkansas. It is very flat there and all of the water from the Ozarks flows into several streams and rivers that all flow into the Mississippi in a relatively short distance from each other. There are several levies that have been breached and a large amount of farm land flooded as well as several towns.
That is all quite a long ways away from us but we see it on the Little Rock news every evening.

I don’t envy you all that rain Mike. We had horrendous floods here three years ago and it caused a whole heap of chaos and misery in the city.
