September 13, 2008 was a rainy Saturday, but we decided to brave the weather and go to the farmer’s market that is held on the streets and sidewalks bordering the Wisconsin State Capitol grounds in downtown Madison. The crowds were not as large as normal and there was only one street musician, but it was still a fun and interesting way to spend part of a morning.

  1. Hi Mike. As usual, I LOVE your photos. You are so talented.

And, there is something about going to a farmer’s market on a rainy day. Can’t quite put my finger on it, but there is something. Maybe smaller crowds has something to do with it.

PS I’m happy to hear that you have subscribed to Loving Pulse.

  2. The photos look so fresh. Love them.

  3. Davina - Thanks!

I agree, but going anywhere and taking pictures in the rain can add something to the rain.

We really enjoyed some of the markets that we found years ago in your area. One was the New Westminster Quay Public market and the other was near the Seabus terminal in North Vancouver. We haven’t really found many to compare with them.

  4. I love farmer’s markets. It would be a cool trip to visit as many farmer’s markets as you can in one state or country or even around the world. I wonder how similar or how different the photos would be in comparison?

  5. Hi Mike,

WOW - these pictures are so beautiful. The more I study photographs, the more I realize how much beauty there is in simple things. Like the radishes, who would think that would make a nice photo. You captured it well.

  6. @ XUP - I think there would be a lot of variety and a lot of similarity. Environmental conditions can make a difference even in photos taken in the same location. I’ll be publishing photos at some point that I took a week later at the same farmer’s market. There were a lot more people, a lot more vendors, and the sun was shining.

@ Barbara - Thanks. I try to remember to get closer to things and get simpler images along with the landscapes. Radishes yesterday, potatoes today.

  7. Beautiful images with the flowers!
    Nice camera that Pentax!

  8. @ Barbara - Thanks.

Yeah, I like the camera a lot. And to think, it wasn’t my first choice. My first choice was a Nikon, but shortly after I ordered it, the camera store e-mailed me that their entire pallet of Nikons had arrived damaged and that it would be weeks before it would be available. No one else had any at a comparable price, so I went with my second choice — and have been pleased ever since! It is a solid camera with a hefty feel to it — but it’s not a burden to carry around.
