Hi Mike … Casemate is a common word for me right now – as we’ve a Redoubt on the coast in the town … which they use for various enactments etc … sadly it is in not a very good condition and needs some major refurbishment/care and concern for a listed building.

The town is endeavouring to get grants etc … and to set up a museum attached to it – all political and ongoing …

These casemates look in good condition – and we need to find replacement guns … at one of the other forts – they’ve put replicas up .. which looked amazing … and obviously considerably less cost.

    Cheers Hilary

These have been protected … and restored, under our National Park Service. Most of the old sea forts that we’ve visited are in relatively decent shape, given their age.
