The way that I took this photo and a lot of others was to try to follow one bird in a large flock that was swirling and wheeling above us on a Lake Michigan shore. As I followed a bird, I let the auto-focus feature work and hoped for the best. This is one of several decent images that came out. (By the way, guess where I found your comment... Askimet!) Julie -- thanks! Vered -- thanks! Chanel -- thanks! Friar -- The odds were good, the way that I was tracking the birds with my camera, that something unexpected would show up.
