Heigh Ho, Heigh Ho …, again …, maybe …, probably

It’s back to work I go — I think.

We should know something soon as the proposed date to start is June 1st.

The contract schedule will be a little different from last time.  I’ll be working about 6 weeks and will then have about 6 to 8 weeks off while the class is involved in activities that do not require my “expertise.” The entire contract for me will be 6 months of actual work.

During the 6 to 8 weeks that I am off — assuming the funding for the contract is actually approved — we’ll be traveling out in the western mountain states.  We had originally planned that trip for July and August, so it’ll be a little delayed, unless the funding  is not approved.

I really do enjoy the work that I’ll be doing under the contract.  It’s the best part of the job that I had before I retired.

The job will help us keep from dipping into our savings for the duration of the contract and we’ll try to pay down a debt or two so that the pension and other income will stretch further when I’m not working.

Heigh Ho, Heigh Ho, it’s off to work I go…, probably…, maybe.

We’re leaving Harper’s Ferry this morning, heading for Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

ANO, entergy, finance, retirement, training, work

I too liked the phrase the best part of the job that I had before I retired – that sounds like the way to do it.

I do not have a job to have the best part of…so nothing to go back to!
Unless it is intense parenting and no thank you to that! Youngest graduates from college mid – June Whoopee!

Well now that is exciting!!! I hope the funding goes through and you have happy travels as well.

I hit my head everyday wishing I had the wits about me to start planning sooner for my future. I Still have a couple of decades to go before retirement, I am so totally in panic mode.

That's good to hear – dipping into savings isn't ideal in this economic environment.

I'm happy for you. We too retired early and my husband was lucky enough to get some interesting contract work. It was enough to keep us from dipping into our savings, and, as you say, it meant doing the fun stuff without the hassle. The best of both worlds.

Thanks everyone for leaving comments and I' sorry it's taken so long to get around to responding.

Three weeks later, the contract is still up in the air. The classes start tomorrow and the guy who is doing most of the jobs that I was doing before I retired will be teaching the first class that they would have liked me to teach. Until last class, I was the only one who ever taught it. But the situation was similar last class and someone else had to teach the first week of this phase of the class.

For this post, I won't post individual replies, but thanks, Betsy, Dot, Vered, Patricia (2 comments), rummuser, Debo Hobo, Michelle Gartner, and Jean Browman for taking the time to comment.
