Sharing photos, videos, vintage images I've discovered, and -- occasionally -- commentary and thoughts from retired life and travels.

Grand Junction and Art on the Corner.

January 20, 2012

2011 09 17 b 171As we had a few days before our next reservation – Arches National Park, – we decided to stop in an area we had only passed through before, Grand Junction, Colorado.  While we were there, we took a stroll down Main Street and discovered Grand Junction’s “Art on the Corner.”

While at Grand Junction, we also visited Colorado National Monument and The Museum of Western Colorado.

The name “Grand” is derived from the Grand River, the name for the upper Colorado River before it was renamed in 1921.  “Junction” is from the joining of the Colorado and Gunnison rivers, just southwest of the downtown area.

I have a confession to make. I found this on YouTube last week and have watched it several times. So many wonderful pieces, I want to go there.

Cool! and this is just a few of the pieces.

I’m currently working on pictures from Arches National Park and got some decent pictures of some bronze pieces outside at the entrance to the visitors center.

I’ve just added some Art on the Corner photos to a Facebook album. It shows some views and some pieces that weren’t in the video.

I’m going to be doing more of this so that the facebook fan page for Exit78 complements and adds to what I’m doing here.

Now I like Grand Junction without ever visiting there. I have so many places that I have not investigated in the US yet, but getting there. Would much prefer the sites here than abroad, contary to my wife.

Hi Mike … love the video – is it James Dalton Trumbo – couldn’t quite read the inscription! The screen writer and novelist … loved the art on show – great to see – cheers Hilary

Thanks!

That’s right. It was screenwriter James Dalton Trumbo. I’d never heard of him before. Even though he was blacklisted during the “red scare” years, he was a screenwriter for Exodus and Spartacus .
