		<description>The photo was taken in 1940.  WWI had ended 22 years earlier.  He isn&#039;t old enough to have served in it. The hat has a metal &quot;badge&quot; on the front of it.  I don&#039;t think it&#039;s a police type badge.  I&#039;d guess the hat was from some kind of uniform -- perhaps a taxi driver, truck driver or even service station attendant.  Yes, at one time, some service stations had guys in uniform, back when full service was the norm.</description>
