Those in the country did manage to fare a lot better than city folk, understandably with gardening and farming.

Barbara – That's cool! (the poem) I'm just glad that some other folks are interesting in what I'm putting together.
Jannie – They were pretty healthy looking. Unfortunately, a lot of the people who lived in the country didn't fare well at all. The area of Kansas where my great grandfather was born was a vibrant family farming area in the early part of the 20th century. By the end of the 30s almost everyone had gone bust and had left. The same was true in wide swaths of the middle section of the country.
