Developments.

While I posted here every day but one during 2013 – the continuous stretch actually ran from December 2nd, 2012 through December 28th, 2013, – posting so far this year has been much more sporadic.  I have been concentrating elsewhere, mostly on my RV and travel pages at Haw Creek.

2014 Haw CreekI am moving Haw Creek from its old domain – hawcreekoutdoors.com – to a new one – haw-creek.com.

Quite a bit of time has been spent working on the blog theme – all the stuff that makes it look and work the way it does.  After a lot of fiddling and tweaking on it, I’m pretty happy with the way that it looks.  Eventually, I’ll be bring a lot of what I’ve figured out there back here to Exit78.

I’m also doing a lot of content development. A lot of folks out there online just copy and paste things that other folks have written without any regard for copyright or plagiarism issues.  I am using information from others, on occasion even phrases, sentences and whole paragraphs, but I’m trying to ensure that I include the appropriate attribution for that, including links to the original sites.  However, I’m primarily trying to write original content, using the facts and information that I’ve found during my research.

The site is not just the blog.  There will also be a good number of content pages.  Some examples include: Class A Motorhomes; Class C Motorhomes; Fifth Wheel Trailers

I’ve still got a lot to do with the site.  There’s menu work to be done.  The site’s front page needs better development and I need work on the about page, as well. I’ll also be merging the content from the old Haw Creek as well as Haw Creek Out ‘n About into this new site.

The new Haw Creek will be going live to the public this week or next.

I started Haw Creek about 9 years or so ago. It's moved from it's original web host where it had an associated blog named Out 'n About. At some point after it moved, I created a blog just for Haw Creek — not sure why. Over the years, after I got it up and running, I've badly neglected Haw Creek, even though it's the site that is earning the small income stream that pays for all that we do on line.

Again, look forward to the your new blog. It certainly reflects the work you have put into it so far and looks really good. If you're like me there's a lot of fun and a little bit of frustration when putting a new site together – but ultimately you'll get there.

Thanks, Alan. — Yes, it's been fun and frustrating, too. I've used various web design platforms over the years, but this one is just WordPress using the Thesis framework. It took me a while to realize that WordPress could be more than just the blog platform, that it could also be used for content pages as well.

I have been through the moving and shaking with my blog. I could never manage without the help of my geeky toyboys. My problem is a lack of understanding of what goes on behind the scenes.

I understand that. Even as much as I've done with these things, it gets quite frustrating. Because it's not something I do all the time, figuring out how to make it do what I want it to do can be quite frustrating. However, on this one anyhow, I think I've turned the corner on that part of it.

Hi Mike – you're always looking to learn = the engineer in you. But Haw-Creek should be a great site for many reasons .. I look forward to checking it out ..

Content .. I certainly try and add or take away bits to some of the wordings that others have used, and then add my own 'voice' to the story line … it just makes it so much more interesting for me as the creator, as well as people who read (I hope) … it seems to work so far ..

I just wish I had some techie boys around .. I'll have to find some – will a red light do?! No .. I'll work it out for myself sometime … my goals for the Spring and Summer are to get better at various technical bits and bobs … Cheers Hilary

Thanks, Hilary. I actually tried the programming side of computers years ago, but found I enjoyed — and was better at — the material development side. Still, the early learning has been beneficial in what I'm doing today.
