Our crinums are blooming.
I last posted on them three years ago in It’s not a Lily: “Crinums are a southern classic and a favorite pass-along plant, according to The Southern Living Garden Book. Seldom seen in newer housing areas, they are now found in old home site, country gardens and in cemeteries. Needing little care, ‘they tolerate adversity so well that some say no crinum has ever died.’

They have a sturdy base, it looks like. Very pretty. I found some flowers near my place that are similar, except that they have eight petals that don’t overlap and the petals have more rounded tips. The stripe is wider but the same colour. I have no idea what species this is. A Google search was fruitless
as there are so many flowers that have white petals with lavender or pink stripes.
Google is great for searching some things, but, for some things, it’s almost impossible, especially flowers.
Ah, they do resemble a lily, but in your first post you mentioned they are related to amaryllis and that seems to make sense as I recall that my last amaryllis blooms were like this – all on one sturdy stalk but four large blooms. They really are very pretty. I’m so glad you were given some. It is amazing to think that the bulbs can get so large. I would not want to have to dig the hole to plant one that large, but I’d gladly take some if someone were splitting them. Looks like yours is doing very well. Enjoy!
We do enjoy them. They’ve been split apart and now we have them in several places.
Hi Mike .. they look beautiful – no wonder you’re both so chuffed when they flower .. and you’re looking after them by splitting them ..
As you mention to Davina .. googling some things is likely to drive you crazy!
Cheers Hilary
